Red Crossbills

Not a lot of time this weekend to be out looking for stuff but I managed to squeeze in a drive and found this colourful pair of birds on the side of the road. At first glance I thought the were grossbecks but upon further inspection I realized it was a pair of red crossbills. The male is red and the female is yellow. What a wierd looking bird, with their crossed mandibles. Apparently it helps them extract the seeds from conifer cones. This is another new bird for me and very exciting to keep seeing new stuff.
